A fondly‐remembered song
The rock tune sprang to mind while taking a break after finishing a job last week. I used to listen to it about two decades ago in a period I had tried to seek refuge in musical world to help myself escape from a broken heart.

In either case the trial turned out well or not, time is a great healer after all, don’t you think so?

A meaningful Saturday
Yesterday we joined the activity of "a school of mountain" in Tamura city, Fukushima prefecture and firstly experienced rice‐planting (田植え), making and eating yummy fire roasted pizza in their handmade brick oven (石窯ピザ作り), and straw working to make an awning (わら細工).

We had a very good relaxing time communicating with the local people who arranged the precious opportunity with considering safety in the rural natural area, and other participants.

I was touched by the heart of the people side of organizing program. There were also the people who have borne up well and have continued to move forward under those hardships they have faced after 3.11.

Taking a result in my hand
I’ve submitted the translation of manuscript four fifths concerning the document records after the 3.11 disaster from a hospital by email this morning. Now there remains one more (maybe.) manuscript to go, some other day.

At the same time, I received the well-bound, printed sightseeing brochure of the city by post today, which I translated conversations while sightseeing, at the end of last year. It's a good feeling to see the finished product in which I took part. I hope tourists will actually find this helpful on various occasions.

Cheers for the week! with my favorite hot wine.

A long-term nostalgic number
Though I'm not and have not been a Yuming fan, I used to listen to the LP album (Woooow. I shouldn't have but I said the Showa period vocabulary.) from Ms. Matsutoya in my jr high school days like other female students.

『青い船で』 - 松任谷由実 -

I’m not really sure why but I'll surely vote for it as the no.1 Yuming song for me. (The reason may be that it is another quite slow music with kind of gloomy tune, as is my habit.) I remember I sang this song while climbing a mountain long ago.

I recalled it by chance, and I am listening to the old melody in spare moments from translation job.

Joy badminton
We’ve had opportunities to play indoors like in a city gymnasium for one year after the nuclear accidents occurring, and I sometimes tried table tennis and badminton with my son.

He became interested in them and joined badminton club at school this spring. Ability is nothing without opportunity?? I wonder…anyway, on Saturday we went to a gymnasium again to hit the shuttle on the badminton court using a pair of new badminton rackets which his father bought for him because the old rackets at home had been deteriorated. My daughter played a role of collecting shuttle for the players.

Yes, I myself like badminton a lot. It reminds me of my childhood days when I had been absorbed playing badminton with my friend in front of house in the age of sepia tone.

Ways to spend Sunday respectively
My son went to climb Mount Adatara which was opened to climbers today with his father and grandpa (He is the original mountaineer in the family line, maybe.). They did it last May as well.

On the other hand, ♪Oh girls just wanna have fun♪, and I went to our favorite shopping center with my daughter to have much fun. My daughter loves shopping even grocery shop, looking around variety or clothes shops and sometimes purchasing little things, eating fast food then dropping in Baskin-Robbins later again, and so on. We just kind of hit it off. (My son is not interested in shopping at all.)

*******

By the way, the article below has been seen very interesting to me, to be honest as I've got tired of the radiation problem and the situation which the actions from the government, prefecture and municipalities have continued to limp along.

I hope if the content of the article is true and it will be a good big present given in return for the families who have all hung in there, in the prefecture.

Full of beans!
Today my children's elementary school had its athletic festival held in a city gymnasium. It was not held last year.

I wished the festival this year could have been held in the school ground outdoor even if they only do three hours, as the radiation exposure dose rate in the schoolyard is less than that in our house actually. I wondered if we don't use it, what was the school ground decontaminated for??

Anyway, school kids were full of vigor and active today! I was glad of it and thought that nothing is better than it. If someone despairs of something, only grown-ups do. Young children always live in the present.

I was touched and almost crying while watching the vigorous cheerleading and the sight of their working hard. They also cheered us, the parents.

Not to waste all the painful experience
I was so impressed with a newspaper article this morning.

19 people evacuated due to the nuclear disaster to Saitama Prefecture visited Tsukuba City in Ibaraki Prefecture yesterday, and did volunteer clean-up work in the awful tornado stricken area for five hours.

People said, "We have been supported by lots of people since the 3.11 disaster, so we would like to something in return for the kindness.", "We can't continuously take a position of being only supported. We do understand the sense of loss because of being deprived of a home.", and so on.

I felt that they have already started to accurately fulfill the "responsibility of people who have received serious damage from disaster".

I believe that really sad feelings and most painful experiences have also potential power to make profound changes in our own lives.

Taste of spring
My friend dropped in at my house to deliver the fiddleheads (Kogomi コゴミ) just-harvested at the southern extremity of the prefecture on Sunday evening.

She also gave me a share of bamboo shoots (or bamboo sprouts タケノコ) which she was given from another mom friend she happened to meet while she was delivering the fiddleheads to her close friends. It's a too small world.

The both edible wild greens were so good. We had Kogomi with soy sauce and dried bonito flakes after parboiling them, and Takenoko as a dish boiled and Japanese style seasoned.

When I sent a thank-you email to the friend of Takenoko, she replied “Oh it was good that Takenoko grown in other prefecture was reached to you. Feel at ease as no cesium was detected in it. Enjoy!”

There has been no opportunity to receive edible wild plants that some relative of neighboring people harvest since the nuclear disaster occurring. So it was an unexpected happy event to have in-season wild mountain vegetables.

A new community world
I attended a party organized by elementary school PTA last night. It was the party to welcome the newly transferred teachers and send off PTA secretaries who had fulfilled their duties.

I had a really good time talking a lot with my son's homeroom teacher sitting next to each other, and talking with my daughter’s homeroom teacher. Well, by joining the drinking party as a school committee member, I understood that it’s one of rare chances to develop better communication between teachers, parents and some local community people.

Taking the opportunity I also enjoyed dishes at the Chinese restaurant. Those who sat at the same table praised for my dishing out the food making the most of my part-time job experience as a party companion ages ago.

Thanks a lot for my mom friend who kindly had my kids at her house while I was out.
